Doing a bit of research for a jewellery feature I came across Jade Mellor's work & had to share it. I am definitely feeling the importance of marble, sedimentary and petrified materials for the next few seasons, moving on from the natural quartz and colored crystals that have populated costume collections.

Jade Mellor's Malachite ring, (first image) perfectly captures that ancient, amazing natural beauty, with all of the natural imperfections and tonal variations celebrated in a small, wearable piece of art.

Maxing the library

Lately I have been diverting the money I spend on clothes and accessories and channeling it into filling out my book collection.
My most recent addition on Friday is 'Fashion Jewellery Catwalk and Couture' by Maia Adams. Featuring a great selection of contemporary designers and jewellers, Adams has collated a refreshing edit of images, and Q & As with favourites such as Arielle de Pinto, BLESS, Jordan Askill and Elke Krammer.

The latest collection from US brand We Never Sleep strikes the perfect balance between artisan and directional. Deadstock parts and semi-precious geometric stones are composed to create elegant, wearable pieces.

As soon as I saw the website for Australian jewellery brand MANIAMANIA (great name) and read thereference for their debut collection (the 1973 mystical desert trip film Holy Mountain) I loved it straight away. "It doesn't have to be spiritual............."

Object trouve jewellery is nothing new, and there are so many variations on this theme out there, but I was instinctively drawn to the collection of necklaces by Worn Path I came across yesterday.
Maybe it's the composition, or the simplicity or the placement of the pieces of vintage charms, minerals, bits of wood that appeals to me, or the hand made in the woods aesthetic, whatever, I think they are great.
A nice sentiment from the brand too:

I recently came across these images of the jewellery collection from Australian brand Elke, from a couple of seasons ago, I'd forgot how much I loved the painted glass lockets, they are so unique, it was definitely one of my faourite brands I saw while I was visiting.
